Event

A demonstration is scheduled to be held in front of the US Embassy in Asunción on Wednesday, April 18, to protest the recent US intervention in Syria. Protesters are expected to gather two blocks east of the US Embassy on Avenida Mariscal López beginning at 17:00 (local time) and then move to hold an associated rally in front of the US Embassy and the Honorary Consulate of the Syrian Arab Republic. Although the event is expected to remain peaceful, a heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are possible near the protest.

Context

The United States, United Kingdom, and France launched joint strikes targeting the Syrian regime in the early hours of April 14 in response to the alleged chemical attack carried out by the Syrian government in Douma on April 7. The suspected chemical attack killed at least 70 people and wounded hundreds of others. Syria and Russia have denied that chemical weapons were used.
