UK: Transportation disruptions in London due to strike April 20-24

The Rail, Maritime, and Transport (RMT) union is planning a strike on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) from April 20-24; transportation disruptions expected

Warning

Event

Rail, Maritime, and Transport (RMT) union workers employed by the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) are planning to strike in London from 04:00 (local time) on Friday, April 20, until 04:00 Tuesday, April 24; DLR services will be suspended. Disruptions may continue throughout Tuesday morning as service returns to normal. Extra bus services will be deployed along DLR routes for the duration of the strike but bus routes are also likely to be disrupted by the London Marathon, which will close a number of roads on Sunday. All other Transport for London (TfL) services will be running as normal but services on the Tube’s Jubilee, Central, District, and Hammersmith & City lines may be much busier than usual, especially at stations that interchange with the DLR.

Context

The RMT union called for the strike amid an ongoing dispute with the DLR operator, KeolisAmey Docklands. A previous 48-hour strike was held from March 28-29. Since then, the RMT claims no significant progress has been made on key issues.

Advice

Travelers are advised to monitor the situation, plan alternate routes, and to allow for extra time to reach their destinations for the duration of the strike.
