Haiti: Sit-ins in Port-au-Prince May 25

Sit-ins to take place in front of various government buildings in Port-au-Prince Friday, May 25; avoid all protests

Unions and civic groups are planning to hold sit-ins in front of various government buildings in the capital Port-au-Prince on Friday, May 25. The demonstrations - being held to denounce a government plan to raise fuel prices and to demand an increase in the minimum wage - will be held in front of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, and the OAVCT office.

Further protests to denounce the increase in fuel prices - set to take effect in June - are likely in the coming weeks.

All protests in Haiti, even smaller ones, have the potential to disrupt daily life as they often involve roadblocks and/or violence.
