El Salvador: Water protests continue /update 2

Protests to denounced fears of water privatization continue in El Salvador; avoid all demonstrations

Further protests took place in the capital San Salvador on Thursday, June 21, to denounce perceived plans by the ARENA (Alianza Republicana Nacionalista) political party to privatize the provision of water services. Demonstrators marched in the vicinity of the National Assembly (Asamblea Legislativa) building, which was blocked off by police. A related roadblock was erected on Ruta Militar (RN18E) in El Divisadero (Morazán department). Further such protests are to be anticated in the coming days and weeks.

Context

A related protest held in front of the National Assembly building was forcibly dispersed by security forces using tear gas on June 14. Further violence is possible.
