El Salvador: Water protests continue /update 3

Protests to denounce fears of water privatization continue in El Salvador; avoid all demonstrations

Another protest took place in the capital San Salvador on Wednesday, June 27, to denounce perceived plans by the ARENA (Alianza Republicana Nacionalista) political party to privatize the provision of water services. Demonstrators marched from Centenario Park to the National Assembly building (Asamblea Legislativa). Further such protests are to be anticipated in the coming days and weeks.

Context

Various related protests have taken place in recent weeks. One such protest held in front of the National Assembly building was forcibly dispersed by security forces using tear gas on June 14. Further violence cannot be ruled out.
