Demonstration over murder verdict in Tbilisi June 1; heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions possible

Thousands of people are expected to participate in a demonstration taking place on the afternoon (local time) of Friday, June 1, in the capital Tbilisi. The protest is being held to condemn a light sentence given in recent murder conviction as well as to demand the resignation of the government. The march route is expected to run from the office of the chief prosecutor to the Old Parliament of Georgia. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions (including road closures) are expected along the march route.
Context
Protesters also gathered late on May 31 following the guilty verdict and sentencing handed down to a man convicted of murdering two teenagers. Many claim the suspect receive a light sentence due to the fact that his father has close ties to the government.
