Warning

Event

Anti-government protests led by opposition parties to demand the resignation of the government have continued to take place nightly in Tbilisi. According to local sources, protesters gathered in front of the Parliament of Georgia on the evening of Monday, June 4 (local time). Protests are expected to continue in the coming days. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions (including road closures) are expected in the vicinity of any gatherings.

Context

Anti-government protests began May 31 following the partial acquittal of defendants in a double-murder case. Georgia's chief prosecutor resigned on May 31 but the protests have continued as their scope has expanded to demand that the government address additional grievances. On June 3, the opposition United National Movement Party and two other minor parties announced that they are joining the protests.

Advice

Individuals in Tbilisi are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
