At least one person was killed and three others injured when a train derailed in the Jambyl region around 13:25 (local time) on Sunday, June 17. Nine cars of a passenger train derailed, including three that overturned completely. The incident was reportedly caused by the sudden braking of the conductor after seeing a buckled rail. Disruptions are expected on the line connecting the capital Astana to Almaty on Monday, June 18; residual disruptions in the coming days should not be ruled out.
