Mauritania: Security increased in Nouakchott ahead of African Union Summit
Nouakchott to host African Union Summit June 25 - July 2; increased security presence and travel restrictions expected

Additional security forces are expected to be deployed to Nouakchott in anticipation of the 31st African Union Summit, which will be held from Monday, June 25, through Monday, July 2. Increased security measures will be in place throughout the city, particularly around the Conference Center located near OumTounsy International Airport (NKC), accommodation and event centers, and other "sensitive" routes. An increased security presence is also to be anticipated in the vicinity of NKC.
Travel restrictions and limited access to certain areas of Nouackchott are also likely during the summit.
Further security measures will be implemented throughout the country as French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to extend his visit following the African Union Summit until Tuesday, July 3.
