At least 15 dead in attack on Department of Refugees and Returnees building in Jalalabad July 31; avoid the area

At approximately 11:40 (local time) on Tuesday, July 31, suspected Islamist militants attacked the Department of Refugees and Returnees building in the Chaharai Marastun area of Jalalabad (Nangarhar province). Fighting was reported in the area until approximately 18:00 when the last attacker was killed by the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF). According to reports, at least 15 people were killed in the attack, including two NGO workers and one employee from an international organization. At least 15 people were also wounded in the fighting. As of 23:30, security cordons remain in place around the DoRR building. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
