Afghanistan: Floods and landslide kill ten in Panjshir July 12

At least ten people died and many more remain unaccounted for following a landslide that struck in the early hours of Wednesday, July 12, breaking the banks of a natural dam in Panjshir province (northeast). The landslide destroyed the nearby village of Peshghor (Khenj district), damaging hundreds of homes.

The mountainous country of Afghanistan regularly suffers from landslides (notably in the spring when snow melts), increasingly so due to deforestation.
