Afghanistan: Suspected militants kill three people in Jalalabad attack July 28

Event

Suspected militants launched a complex attack on a midwife training center in Jalalabad (Nangarhar province) on Saturday, July 28, killing three people and wounding seven others. Both of the assailants were killed in the operation; one died when detonating a suicide bomb while the other was killed following an hours-long gun battle with security forces.

While no group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, the Islamic State (IS) group is suspected of carrying it out and the Taliban have denied involvement. Additional militant attacks are possible in Jalalabad in the near-term.
