Japanese weather authorities have forecast heavy rainfall in western and northern regions until the morning of Friday, August 17. Flooding, landslides, thunderstorms, and tornadoes are likely. Up to 15 cm (6 in) of rain is expected in the 24-hour period ending at 06:00 (local time) August 17 in the Tohoku, Hokuriku, and Shikoku regions. Up to 12 cm (5 in) of rain is forecast for the Hokkaido region. The Kanto-Koshin region, including Tokyo and surrounding prefectures, may receive up to 10 cm (4 in) of precipitation.
