Typhoon Yagi forecast to hit Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands on August 11

Typhoon Yagi, also known as 18W, is expected to hit Okinawa and Kagoshima prefectures on Saturday, August 11. The tropical storm will likely pass approximately 145 km (90 mi) northeast of Okinawa, with the southernmost portions of the storm over the island, before heading into the East China Sea. Yagi has sustained winds of 65 km/h (40 mph) and gusts up to 84 km/h (52 mph) and is forecast to maintain similar winds speeds until Sunday, August 12. The typhoon is expected to make landfall in southern North Korea on Tuesday, August 14, though projections for this storm have varied considerably and the forecast is made with low certainty.
