UK: South Western Railway strikes August 18, 31 and September 1 /update 1
South Western Railway workers to strike August 18, August 31, and September 1; strike set for August 11 called off
Event
South Western Railway (SWR) employees have called off a strike set to take place on Saturday, August 11, to facilitate negotiations. However, strikes are still planned for August 18, August 31, and September 1. Significant disruptions (reduced services, delays, overcrowding) are to be anticipated along the SWR network on strike days. Increased road traffic congestion is also possible if large numbers of commuters are forced to seek alternative means of transportation.
Context
SWR serves southern England (including the London region) and Wales. Four other related strikes have already taken place since late July.
Advice
Affected travelers are advised to confirm train timetables on strike days and allow additional time to reach their destinations.
