Informational

Event

On Sunday, September 2, at least 12 people were killed when a helicopter crashed in the northern province of Balkh. The helicopter had 14 passengers on board, including 11 members of the Afghan security forces.

Context

According to the authorities, the crash occurred due to technical problems shortly after taking off in Dehdadi district. As a reminder, all Afghan airlines have been denied permission to operate in the European Union (EU) due to their inability to meet international safety standards.

Advice

On an unrelated note, the security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Although travel is possible in some areas, other areas should be considered strictly off-limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
