Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Sydney and parts of New South Wales state

On September 7, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Sydney. Heavy rainfalls and hail have been lashing the city. Gosford, Sydney, Wollongong, Orange, Katoomba and Parkes are the most affected areas. Sydney International Airport (SYD) reports minor delays due to weather conditions. The airport operations are not however affected. Heavy showers associated with thunderstorms are expected in several other areas of New South Wales state, especially in Cabramurra, Wagga Wagga and Corowa.

Among various recommendations, the New South Wales State Emergency Service advises people present in affected areas to unplug computers and appliances, avoid using the phone during the storm, to stay indoors away from windows, and for emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
