Bomb-clearing operation to take place in Lille region on October 7 after discovery of WWII-era bomb; evacuation expected

An alert was issued in the Lille region on Monday, September 24, following the discovery of a World War II-era bomb in the vicinity of a technical center run by the SNCF (French national rail operator) in the commune of Hellemmes. A mine-clearing operation is planned for Sunday, October 7, during which time police will evacuate individuals located within a 400-m (1312-ft) radius. The evacuation will begin at 06:30 and is expected to end at 16:00 (local time). Traffic and business disruptions can be expected.
