Kenya: Curfew imposed in Olposimoru from Sep. 25 amid clashes /update 2

The Narok County Commissioner announced on Tuesday, September 25, that a curfew will be imposed on Olposimoru (Narok county) amid ongoing ethnic clashes in the region. Individuals are instructed to remain indoors from 18:00 (local time) to 06:00 daily until further notice. Tensions reportedly remain high in the area and further fighting is possible in the coming days. Travel between Nairobi and the Masai Mara reserve may also be disrupted as Narok county is on the route between the two areas.

Context

Intercommunal clashes between two clans in Narok and Nakuru counties have been ongoing in Olpusimoru (Narok county) since Sunday, September 23. According to local officials, at least one person has been killed and 21 others have been wounded in the new round of fighting.

Violence initially broke out between the two communities on September 5 through September 12 over land rights in the Mau forest; at least five people were killed in the clashes.
