A referendum will be held throughout New Caledonia on Sunday, September 4, to determine the territory's relationship with France.  According to the latest polls, the motion to oppose the independence had a significant lead. Nevertheless, demonstrations remain possible in New Caledonia, especially in Nouméa, in the coming weeks.

Context

According to the 1998 Nouméa Accord, an independence referendum would have to be organized by the end of 2018.
