Syria: Israeli air strike near Damascus International Airport Sep. 15

Event

On Saturday evening (local time), September 15, the Israel military launched a missile strike in the vicinity of the Damascus International Airport (DAM). The attack reportedly targeted and hit an arms depot near the facility, supplying either the Iranian authorities or Lebanon's Hezbollah. Local sources indicated that air defenses managed to intercept some of the missiles; no further information was communicated regarding the extent of the damages. Israel has not commented on the attack.

Context

Over the past year and a half, the Israeli army has struck more than 200 targets in Syria, most of which have been arms depots and military facilities. To date, the Syrian conflict involves many parties, including the Syrian government, the Russian government, the Iranian government, the Turkish government, a US-led coalition, and numerous armed groups on the ground (including the Islamic State) with competing goals.
