US: Heavy rainfall across parts of AR, LA, OK, and TX states September 21-22

Heavy rainfall recorded across parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas states September 21-22; flooding leaves at least one person dead in Dallas (Texas) area

Heavy rainfall was reported in parts of Oklahoma and Texas states on Friday, September 21, into Saturday, September 22, causing flooding in the Dallas (Texas) area which left at least one person dead on Friday night (local time). According to the National Weather Service, total rainfall amounts of 3-8 cm (1-3 in) are forecast for parts of eastern Texas to the Tennessee and lower Ohio River valleys through Sunday, September 23. As of Saturday afternoon, flash flood watches are in effect for parts of central and western Arkansas, northwestern Louisiana, southeastern Oklahoma, and northeastern Texas. A flash flood warning is in effect for Shreveport (Louisiana).

Flooding may cause associated transportation disruptions and power outages in affected areas over the coming hours.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, and anticipate transportation disruptions. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
