US: Rain, possible flooding forecast for Wisconsin August 31-September 2

Southern Wisconsin is forecast to see more rain from Friday, August 31, through Sunday, September 2, as thunderstorms pass through the region. According to the US National Weather Service (NWS), approximately 5-7.6 cm (2-3 in) of rain is expected in Madison and areas to the southwest of the capital. This would exacerbate existing flooding and heavily saturated ground in the state. As of 20:55 (local time) on Friday, NWS has active flood warnings for the Baraboo River in Sauk county with moderate flooding through Saturday and into the early Sunday afternoon. Flash flooding, infrastructure damage, and transportation disruptions are possible.

Context

Southern Wisconsin has experienced damaging floods throughout late August. Storms have brought more than 35.5 cm (14 in) of rain since August 20. Governor Scott Walker declared a state of emergency on Tuesday, August 28, allowing state resources to assist with flood relief.
