US: Tropical Storm Olivia to hit Hawaii September 11 /update 1

According to the National Hurricane Center, storm Olivia, which has weakened from a category 1 hurricane into a tropical storm, is expected to make landfall around 20:00 (local time) on Tuesday, September 11, on the Hawaiian island of Maui. Tropical storm warnings are currently in effect for the islands of Maui, Lanai, Kaho’olawe, and Moloka’i, as well as the coasts of Big Island (Hawai’i) and O’ahu. Lower tropical storm watches are also in effect for Kauai and Niihau, located in the north of the Hawaiian archipelago. Torrential rain and strong winds are to be anticipated throughout the state until at least Wednesday evening. Flooding, landslides, and infrastructural damages are possible, along with associated transportation and telecommunication disruptions.

Hurricanes and tropical cyclones are common in the eastern and central Pacific from May through November.
