Red alert extended in Aude department (Occitanie) on October 16 due to severe flooding; associated disruptions likely to persist

A red alert issued by Météo France for Aude department remains in effect as of Tuesday, October 16, as heavy rain continues to hit the area. Severe flooding has impacted the department since Sunday night, October 14 (local time), leaving 11 people dead and three others missing. Around 1000 people have been evacuated by local authorities.

Power outages, lack of drinking water, and severe transportation disruptions are likely to persist throughout the day.

Remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
