The Joint Trade Union Movement (JTUM) has called for a three-day march to take place from Wednesday, October 3, to Friday, October 5. According to union representatives, the march will begin at 09:00 (local time) on October 3 at the PETROTRIN oil refinery in Point-à-Pierre. Demonstrators will reportedly march through Aranguez Savannah on October 4, before arriving at the Brian Lara Promenade in Port of Spain on October 5. The march is being organized to denounce a decision to close the Point-à-Pierre PETROTRIN oil refinery. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are anticipated along the march route.

Context

The union is protesting the decision to close an oil refinery in Point-à-Pierre operated by the state-run oil company PETROTRIN. Around 1700 jobs are expected to be cut when the refinery closes.
