Tunisian General Labour Union calls off nationwide strike initially scheduled for October 24

The Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) has announced that a general strike initially planned for October 24 has been called off following negotiations with the government, which led to a rise in salaries for public sector employees. As such, normal operations are to be anticipated.

However, a general strike called for November 22 could still go ahead if further negotiations fall apart.

The UGTT had called for strikes to denounced privatization moves by the government and weakened consumer purchasing power.
