Tunisia: Riots at football match outside Tunis October 23

Police arrested 12 people after riots broke out during a football match between l'Espérance sportive de Tunis (EST) and the Angolan team Primeiro de Agosto, injuring at least 13 fans and 38 security guards, in Radès (Ben Arous province) on Tuesday, October 23. Riot police reportedly used tear gas to disperse violent crowds inside the venue after fans began throwing stones and charged the playing field at the Olympic Stadium of Radès.

Violence and clashes between fans and security forces are common at football matches in Tunisia. In May 2018, 17 police officers were charged with the death of a football fan who died during a pursuit following a match at Radès Stadium.
