Residual disruptions in downtown Melbourne following a fatal knife attack on November 9

A knife attack took place in downtown Melbourne, on Bourke Street, at around 16:20 (local time) on Friday, November 9. One person was fatally stabbed while two others were injured; the attacker was subsequently shot by the police and taken to the hospital. Police were initially on the scene to respond to a vehicle set on fire when they began to be threatened by the knife-wielding individual. The Central Business District area has been cordoned off by the authorities, causing related disruptions. At this stage, the attack is not thought to be related to terrorism; investigations are underway.
