Australia: Storm causes flash flooding, flight delays in Sydney Nov. 28 /update 1

A large storm is bringing torrential rain to coastal areas of New South Wales, from Mid North Coast to Illawarra and into the Blue Mountains as of 10:00 (local time) on Wednesday, November 28. An estimated 8 cm (3.2 in) of rain fell in Sydney before 07:00, causing flash flooding, road closures, and flight delays and cancelations at Sydney Airport (SYD). A total of 20 cm (8 in) of rain is possible in Sydney throughout the day. Local authorities reportedly rescued at least five motorists stranded due to high water levels. Intense winds of up to 90 km/h (56 mph) and more rain is expected and likely to cause further transportation disruptions. Continued flight delays and cancelations at SYD are also likely.
