Northern California’s so-called Camp Fire continues to burn November 12; mandatory evacuation orders and road closures
Event
The so-called Camp Fire wildfire continues to burn in northern California's Butte county as of Monday, November 12. The fire, which initially broke out on November 8, has so far burned some 44,900 hectares (111,000 acres) and, as of late Sunday, was only 25 percent contained. Full containment is currently predicted for November 30.
At least 29 people have been killed and another 228 are unaccounted for. More than 6700 structures have been destroyed and another 15,500 are threatened. Mandatory evacuation orders are in effect in various areas, including Paradise, Magalia, Concow, Butte Creek Canyon, Pulga, and Butte Valley. A number of roads in the vicinity of the fire have been closed.
Context
The Camp Fire is the most destructive in the state’s history and on track to be the deadliest.
