At least four people killed as a result of a Taliban suicide attack against a military convoy near Kabul December 11; remain vigilant

A suicide bombing attack killed at least four security officers and wounded six others in the Paghman district, located west of the capital Kabul, on Tuesday, December 11. The blast reportedly targeted a convoy of the Afghan security forces traveling to the capital following a nightly security operation. Taliban claimed responsibility for the assault.
Furthermore, eight police officers were killed and four others injured overnight on December 10, following a Taliban attack against their position in the Arghestan district (Kandahar province; south).
Similar attacks on security forces are to be expected in Afghanistan over the coming weeks.
Context
Taliban and Islamic State (IS) militants launch attacks on government personnel, security forces, and civilians in Afghanistan on a near-daily basis. Such assaults are in part intended to undermine the perceived capacity of Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) - and the Afghan government more broadly - to adequately provide security in the wake of the withdrawal of most US-led NATO forces from the country and in the aftermath of parliamentary and district elections held October 20.
