Australia: Owen weakens to Category 1 storm December 15 /update 1

Event

As of the evening (local time) of Saturday, December 15, Owen weakened to a Category 1 as it continued to move eastward across Queensland. Associated winds of up to 95 km/h (59 mph) continue to be reported along Owen's path. According to the Bureau of Meteorology, flood warnings remain in place along the banks of the Herbert, Mulgrave, Russell, and Bohle rivers. Further downpours are expected in the coming hours and days, especially on Queensland's northeastern coast. Transportation disruptions are possible.
