Côte d'Ivoire: “Orange Vests” protest in Abidjan December 19

ARDH civil society group to hold a protest march in Abidjan December 19; avoid all gatherings

Warning

Event

Demonstrators affiliated with the Actions for the Restoration of Human Dignity (ARDH) civil society group are planning to hold a protest march in Abidjan on Wednesday, December 19, to denounce perceived "injustices and political abuses". Protesters, who intend to wear orange vests, will march from the Indénié roundabout in Adjamé district towards the Palais de Justice. A heightened security presence along with transportation disruptions are expected along the march route.

Context

The protest is reportedly inspired by the "yellow vest" movement protests in France. The "yellow vest" movement began on November 17 to protest rising fuel prices and a planned fuel tax.

Advice

Individuals in Abidjan are advised to follow all instructions issued by local authorities, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
