Tensions remain high in parts of Narok county as of December 17 following inter-ethnic clashes; dusk-to-dawn curfew in effect in Ololoipangi area

Fighting between two ethnic communities in southern Narok county broke out on Friday, December 14, with tensions remaining high as of Monday, December 17. The clashes between members of the Kipsigis and Maasai communities erupted on Friday night (local time) after a cow was allegedly stolen. At least one person was killed and another five were wounded. Authorities enacted a dusk-to-dawn curfew beginning Sunday, December 16, for the Ololoipangi, Nkoben Osananguriri, and Oloruasi areas of Narok county. Additional security forces have also been deployed into the area to prevent a further escalation of violence.
