Unidentified militants launch attacks in Palma district (Cabo Delgado province) December 10-11; additional attacks possible in the near term
Event
Suspected Islamist militants launched three attacks between December 10-11 in the Palma district of the Cabo Delgado province. The assailants raided the villages of Nalyandele, Malamba, and Miando, reportedly killing at least four people and kidnapping three others. Several houses were also burnt down. In addition to raids on villages, attacks against individuals working in fields were reported, notably in the village of Makanga, where one person was beheaded. Similar attacks are possible in Cabo Delgado province in the near term.
Context
The Ahlu Sunna Wa-Jamo/Ansar Al-Sunna (Shabaab) group has been responsible for carrying out attacks against local businesses, government installations, and security forces in Cabo Delgado province.
