A group of suspected Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) members reportedly attacked a village in Rubavu district on the night (local time) of Sunday, December 9. According to Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) officials, the rebels crossed the border from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and assaulted the village of Cyamabuye. The RDF said its soldiers successfully repelled the attackers, killing at least four of the rebels without suffering any military casualties. However, one civilian was also wounded in the fighting.

Context

Cross-border attacks by rebel groups have been rare in recent years. According to media reports, the last suspected FDLR attack occurred in 2016, resulting the deaths of several civilians.
