Zimbabwe: Thunderstorms, flooding forecast through December 10
Thunderstorms to bring heavy rain, flooding across Zimbabwe December 9-10; transportation disruptions likely in affected areas
Event
Thunderstorms moving across Zimbabwe are forecast to bring heavy rain and flooding from Sunday, December 9, through Monday, December 10. According to the Meteorological Service Department (MSD), rainfall of more than 6 cm (2.4 in) is forecast with storms moving from the southeast (i.e. Manicaland, Masvingo, Matebeleland South) to the north (i.e. Midlands, Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Harare). Flash flooding is possible and transportation disruptions are likely in affected areas.
Advice
Individuals in Zimbabwe are advised to monitor local weather forecasts and anticipate transportation disruptions (e.g., road closures, damaged roads, flooding). Remember that walking or driving through moving water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
