Cuba: Tornado kills at least three people in Havana January 27-28

A tornado struck Havana overnight on January 27-28 (local time), killing at least three people and injuring 172 others. Authorities reported that the tornado, packing winds of up to 100 km/h (60 mph), caused significant material damage in the Luyano area of the city. According to weather officials, strong winds are forecast in the coming hours in the country's western provinces.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports and follow all instructions issued by the local authorities. The safest place to be in a building in the event of a tornado is in the basement or on the ground floor, or in an interior hallway or stairwell. Avoid doors, windows, and walls. If a tornado is approaching, crouch face down as low as possible to the floor and cover your head with your hands, or a mattress if possible, to protect your head from falling debris.
