Kenya: Car-free days in Nairobi postponed until at least mid-February

Secretary for Transport James Macharia announced that the government would postpone a pilot car-free program in central Nairobi until at least mid-February. The program, initially scheduled to begin Friday, February 1, would ban the use of private vehicles on Moi Avenue, Harambee Avenue, Taifa Road, City Hall Way, and Mama Ngina Street on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The areas would be served by a new Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system. The postponement was reportedly due to new security requirements following the DusitD2 attack.
