5.5-magnitude quake hits Cagayan province (North); no major damages reported

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake hit the Cagayan province (Luzon island) around 16:30 (local time) on Thursday, January 24. Tremors were also felt in Pasuquin (Ilocos Norte province) and Vigan (Ilocos Sur province). According to initial reports, no casualties or major material damages were reported. No tsunami warning was issued.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor developments to the situation, to be prepared for further aftershocks, and to adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), to move away from windows, and to not attempt to leave the building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
