Orange weather alerts issued in eight departments in southeast February 1-2; transportation disruptions possible

On Friday, February 1, weather officials issued orange weather alerts (the second-highest on a four-tier scale) for snow, ice, avalanches, and heavy rains for eight departments in the southeast. The departments of Haute-Savoie and Hautes-Alpes have been placed under an orange alert for heavy snows, while orange alerts for avalanches have been issued in Isère, Savoie, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Alpes-Maritimes. In addition, an orange weather alert for heavy rains has been issued in Corse du Sud. The alerts are expected to be in effect through Saturday, February 2. Related air and rail disruptions, hazardous driving conditions, and power outages are possible.
