France: Suspect killed following stabbing spree in Marseille February 19 /update 1

Police in Marseille reportedly shot and killed an assailant on Rue de Rome following a stabbing spree near the Canebière area at approximately 16:45 (local time) on Tuesday, February 19. Officials indicate the assailant stabbed and injured at least four people, including two on a tram, and reportedly brandished a gun at police before undercover officers killed the suspect.

Authorities stated they do not believe the incident to be terror related. A security perimeter remains in place around the area. Residual disruptions are to be anticipated in central Marseille in the coming hours.
