Taiwan: China Airlines pilot strike ends /update 3

Event

The Pilots Union Taoyuan and China Airlines reached an agreement to end the ongoing pilot strike following negotiations on Thursday, February 14. According to media reports, the deal addresses the five major demands from the pilots while the union agreed to not strike again before August 31, 2022. China Airlines officials said that flight schedules should return to normal by Saturday, February 16; however, at least 28 flights have been canceled between Friday, February 15, and Sunday, February 17.

Context

Pilots launched an indefinite strike on February 8 to demand improved working conditions, including a reduction of the workload and improved fatigued flight conditions following long-distance flights. According to the union, over 600 pilots participated in the strike, which resulted in over 100 flights being canceled and affected more than 20,000 travelers.
