Indonesia: Authorities warn of possible flooding in Jakarta March 5

Jakarta’s disaster authorities issue critical flood alert for North Jakarta on March 5; flooding and associated transportation disruptions expected in coming days

Warning

Event

The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) issued a critical flooding alert on Tuesday morning (local time), March 5, for areas of North Jakarta. Heavy rains in recent days, with more forecasted in the coming days, raised water levels across the region. Road closures were reported in North Jakarta, particularly in the Ancol neighborhood. North Jakarta coastal areas, including Ancol, Penjaringan, and Cilincing, are expected to experience the worst flooding and high water levels are also possible in some areas of West Jakarta, including Cengkareng, Kapuk, and North Kembangan. Water levels will be further exacerbated by tides, with more flooding expected daily around 18:30 (local time) and just after sunrise with high tide arriving at 07:45. Further flooding and associated transportation disruptions are expected in the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in Jakarta are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, including road closures and increased congestion on available routes, and allow additional time to reach their destination.
