Cyclone Kenneth makes landfall in northern Mozambique, leaving one dead as of April 27; flooding, power outages, and transportation disruptions expected in coming days

Cyclone Kenneth made landfall in northern Mozambique's Cabo Delgado province on Thursday, April 25, after passing over Comoros the day prior. One person was killed from the storm in Mozambique and around 30,000 people were evacuated from their communities in Cabo Delgado province and some areas of southern Tanzania. Power outages were reported in Pemba (Cabo Delgado province) and other areas to the north. Heavy rains are forecast to continue and transportation disruptions, particularly road closures due to flooding, are expected in the coming days.

Mozambique is still recovering from Cyclone Idai, a catastrophic storm that hit the center of the country in March. Idai killed over 1000 people and affected 3 million people in total across the region.
