Tunisia: Youth protest reported in Tataouine (Tataouine province) April 22

Dozens of young residents of Tataouine province staged a protest at People's Square in the city of Tataouine on Monday, April 22, demanding the government implement the terms of a 2017 agreement promising greater employment opportunities and economic development for residents of the province. Demonstration organizers have vowed to escalate protest activities if their demands are not met and the perceived economic marginalization of the province - endowed with oil and gas reserves - continues.

Similar demonstrations are possible in Tataouine (Tataouine province) over the coming days and weeks. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected around protest sites.
