Officials confirm at least four fatalities following car bomb attack in Kabul on May 31; avoid the area

At least four people were killed after a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) detonated in the PD9 area of eastern Kabul on Friday, May 31. The attack occurred at approximately 08:30 (local time) and reportedly targeted a foreign military convoy. A number of civilians were also reportedly wounded in the blast. A heightened security presence is expected in the area.
Context
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing. At least six people were killed in a suicide bombing attack at the entrance of Marshal Fahim National Defense University in Kabul on Thursday, May 30.
Taliban and Islamic State (IS) militants launch attacks on government personnel, security forces, and civilians in Afghanistan on a near-daily basis. Such assaults are, in part, intended to undermine the perceived capacity of Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) - and the Afghan government more broadly - to adequately provide security in the wake of the withdrawal of most US-led NATO forces from the country.
