Warning

Event

A demonstration is slated to take place in Jakarta on Thursday, May 9, to denounce perceived voter-fraud during the recent general election. Participants are expected to rally outside the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) and the General Elections Commission (KPU) via Taman Lapangan Banteng from 13:00 (local time). Authorities will reportedly deploy 11,000 police reinforcements to secure the demonstration.

A heightened security presence and localized disruptions are likely near the demonstration. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Individuals in Jakarta are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all public demonstrations as a precaution, and anticipate a heightened security presence and localized business and transportation disruptions near any demonstrations.
