Japan: G20 Summit in Osaka June 28-29
G20 Summit in Osaka (Kansai region) June 28-29; heightened security presence and traffic disruptions likely leading up to and during the summit
Event
Japan will host its first ever G20 Summit at the Intex Osaka convention center in Osaka (Kansai region) on Friday, June 28, and Saturday, June 29. Heightened security measures will be implemented beginning Monday, June 24, ahead of the summit, as authorities in Osaka will limit road traffic around Osaka Station, hotels reserved for foreign dignitaries, and the Intex Osaka convention center. Police will also remove trash cans and coin lockers at all stations in Osaka and in neighboring prefectures.
The Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors' Meeting, the Foreign Ministers' Meeting, and other ministerial meetings will also be held at eight different locations throughout the country between the months of May and November. The G20 Summit on Financial Markets and the World Economy brings together leaders from 19 countries as well as the European Union, on an annual basis, to discuss critical issues affecting the global economy.
